'Government lacks clarity on caste census'

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa has urged the State government to review the caste census data as “it is not scientific.”

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Eshwarappa said that while only 40 per cent of the households had been enumerated in the State till now, officials were claiming to have covered 100 per cent households in several districts, including Shivamogga.

“The government lacks clarity on census. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself could not give answers to all the 55 questions in the enumeration form. Social Welfare minister has not taken the task seriously,” Eshwarappa said.

Welcoming the decision to distribute five kg rice free of cost to BPL families under Anna Bhagya scheme, Eshwarappa said that people accept everything given by the government without any objection.

People’s money

“Let the government give, mutton, chicken, sambar and Rs 500 along with rice. We don’t mind as Congress leaders are not giving it from their pockets. It is people’s money. But I am confident that people will back BJP in all the polls including the ones to BBMP and gram panchayat. The results of previous elections clearly indicate it,” he claimed.

He said Supreme Court’s directions to the State government to conduct elections to BBMP within three months was a huge setback for the ruling party which was conspiring to postpone the polls. Besides, BJP has already halted the government’s attempt to split BBMP, he said.
