A day after receiving five-year jail sentence and interim bail, support has been pouring in for Bollywood star Salman Khan with fans and fellow actors converging on his Galaxy Apartments residence at Bandra suburb.

A Mumbai sessions court on Wednesday convicted Khan to five-year rigourous imprisonment on a 13-year-old drunken driving and hit-and-run case. The star managed to secure two-day interim bail from Bombay High Court, which would hear his appeal against the conviction and extended bail on Monday.  Chaos prevailed in the roads leading to the Khan residence as fans and onlookers swamped the streets to watch the steady stream of Bollywood stars visiting Khan, one of the most respected Bollywood figures.

Salman lives in Galaxy Apartments with father Salim Khan, mother Salma Khan and step-mother Helen. Several actors, actresses, film producers, directors, singers, music directors, besides political figures, have been at the residence as a gesture of support to the family facing its worst ever crises.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray, who enjoys good relationship with the Khan family, Congress MLA and son of former Chief Minister Narayan Rane, Nitesh Rane, former Congress MP Govinda, who co-starred with Salman in movies like Partner, visited the family in the morning.  Fellow superstar Aamir Khan spent close to half an hour with Salman’s family, as did filmmaker Karan Johar.

Actresses, many of whom featured opposite Salman, such as Bipasha Basu, Sonakshi Sinha, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, Sanjay Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Sangeeta Bijlani, sisters Karishma and Kareena Kapoor also met the star and his family.

T-Series owners Kishan and Bhushan Kumar and actor Suneil Shetty were seen at the Khan residence. Prior to the verdict, Shah Rukh Khan and David Dhavan also met with Salman. Vehicles of the visiting stars were stranded in the traffic chaos and large number of fans jostled to take selfies and snatch a glimpse of the celebrities. Police escort vehicles opened the sirens to clear the way for the vehicles. They had to push away the crowd and even had to wield their lathis at them. A large company of policemen have been deployed near Galaxy Apartments to manage the situation.
