Bagging one award after another

Surekha Sikri and Farida Jalal in Balika Vadhu.Balika Vadhu bagged The Best Drama Series (Fiction) award at the Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards, which was held recently.

Said Sunjoy Waddhwa from Sphere Origins, “It’s a great honour for us to receive the award, which is a platform shared by the talented personalities of our film fraternity. It feels great that people recognise good and honest work, which has a social message.”
Set in rural Rajasthan, Balika Vadhu traces the arduous journey of child bride Anandi, from the brink of childhood to womanhood.

It portrays the plight of children, who are unwillingly forced into marriage in the name of tradition and have to bear the repercussions for the rest of their lives. 

Comical murder mystery

MAX presents 36 China Town at 12 pm on January 20. The movie revolves around the investigation of a police officer Karan (Akshay Khanna), who is trying to find the killer of a wealthy casino owner, Sonia Chang (Isha Koppikar).

His suspects are Raj (Shahid Kapoor), Priya (Kareena Kapoor), Rocky (Upen Patel), Natwar (Paresh Rawal), KK (Johnny Lever), Ruby (Tanaaz Currim) and Gracy (Payal Rohatgi).  

Cat and mouse chase

Cartoon Network presents 90 minutes of hilarious escapades of the world’s most popular cat and mouse duo — Tom and Jerry, with Chooha Billi Chor Police, starting this month every Monday to Thursday from 6 to 7.30 pm.

Tom, the cat, is an opportunist, always crawling up to the powerful, whether it is the housekeeper, the dog, or even, on occasions, the mouse. While Jerry, the mouse, is a schemer, happy with his tiny little world until he is cornered or poked at. Together they form an incredible pair where constantly Tom chases Jerry and Jerry chases the cheese and from time to time, the two team up to get rid of an outside menace.

For science fiction lovers

Tune into Star World at 11 pm on January 20 for Warehouse 13. The show is an American science fiction series that follows United States Secret Service agents Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) and Peter Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) as they are reassigned to the government’s secret Warhouse 3, which houses supernatural objects. They are tasked to retrieve missing objects and investigate reports of new ones. 

Hilarious caretakers 

HBO presents Daddy Day Care starring Eddie Murphy, Jeff Garlin, Anjelica Huston and Steve Zahn at 9 pm on January 20. Advertising executives, Charlie and Phil lose their jobs at a large food company. Two incomes short, they are forced to pull their sons out from the elite Chapman Academy.

With no jobs looming on the horizon, the stay-at-home dads take matters into their own hands and decide to start their own day-care facility. Not surprisingly, these two have unconventional, chaotic and yet hilarious ways of taking care of the children that find themselves in competition with their sons’ former school and its headmistress, Mrs Harridan.
