Dawood goof-up leaves Rajnath in a fix

Last Updated 08 May 2015, 19:40 IST

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday faced a piquant situation as a BJP member questioned the need to respond to a Zero Hour query by Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia on the whereabouts of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

“Madam Speaker, why is the minister responding? Will he respond to every issue raised during Zero Hour,” Virendra Singh, a BJP member from Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh, said in the Lok Sabha.

The virtual challenge to Home Minister Rajnath Singh, considered next in command to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was reflective of the disquiet in the BJP over its approach towards the Congress.

On Thursday, Singh had responded to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who accused the Centre of indulging in “politics of vendetta” for scrapping a mega food park in his Amethi constituency.

Members can, with prior notice to the Speaker, raise issues of importance during the Zero Hour, which is taken up at noon immediately after the Question Hour.
