Two officials in the Karauli district administration thrashed each other publicly for allegedly demanding bribe on a monthly basis and neglecting routine work.

Chief executive office of Karauli zila parishad Shamshudin and block development officer Babli Ram Jat registered a complaint against each other. There are rumours in the zila parishad office that both officials thrashed each other over sharing bribe money.

According to police, the CEO had filed a complaint that BDO Babli Ram Jat visited his house in an inebriated state and threatened to kill him. The BDO, however, has filed a complaint that the CEO has been forcing him to raise monthly bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the public and hand over to him. When he denied to obey the orders, the CEO along with his supporters beat him up.

“Both officials have registered complaints against each other. We are investigation the case. Possibility of dispute over sharing bribe amount cannot be ignored. We will probe from all angles,” said Yogesh Yadav, SP Karauli.

Police said that earlier the CEO had complained to senior officials that Babli Ram Jat was neglecting official work and several important campaigns of the state government. After the complaint, Jat started abusing the CEO verbally in his office.

On several occasions, both officials met in the panchayat samiti and manhandled each other. The state government has sought a detailed report of the incident from the district collector.

“The state government has sought a report of the incident and we will soon forward it,” said Vikram Singh Chauhan, district collector.
