CM promises salary till driver's retirement age

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met the slain DTC driver’s son and promised his family regular salary till the date of the deceased driver’s retirement.

“The incident was very bad and shocking, we are with you. We will extend all help we can,” he said while meeting the driver’s son and other family members at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday. The Chief Minister also promised all increments during the said tenure of his service.

But sources say the Arvind Kejriwal-led government is planning to act tough on those who led the agitation, following the death of Ashok Kumar (42) in an incident of road rage on Sunday. Protestors were demanding a Rs 1 crore compensation to the victim’s family.

“Many of those who insinuated the protest may be sacked as the government is examining video footage from the protest site to identify miscreants,” a DTC official said. The government has already served notice to about 1,500 employees for taking part in the strike despite the government’s order.

The protests at bus depots across the city were videographed on the government’s instructions, the official said.

“All concerned staff are advised not to participate in the strike and to report back for their duties failing which stern action will be initiated against the employees who are involved in the strike and cause inconvenience to the bus users in Delhi,” a statement put out by DTC said.

The warning came after the Delhi government invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act against the agitating DTC staff.

DTC spokesperson R S Mihas said those who didn’t turn up for work on Tuesday will either be served with a suspension letter or a show-cause notice asking them why no action should be taken against them.
