Plaint against officer for enrolling 'fake voters'

Last Updated 13 May 2015, 18:20 IST

Seven former corporators have filed a complaint with the Upalokayukta stating that Revenue Officer (BBMP) of Govindarajanagar Assembly constituency is indulging in enrolling mass fake voters in the voters list of ward number 104, 105, 106, 126, 125, 131 and 128.

The upalokayukta has directed Revenue Officer Govindarajanagar to submit his reply on the complaint on May 15.

The complainants stated that a few intending candidates for the upcoming BBMP elections are filing bulk applications.

The applications contain names of persons who are not residents of the respective wards.

However, some open sites, non-existing floors of a building are shown as their residential addresses. According to the complainant, these applications are not brought before the BBMP officials individually, but by the aspiring candidates in bulk. The Revenue officers are engaged in entering such names in the voters list, the complainant stated.

“The complainants stated that the Revenue Officer who is duty bound to make verification of the details in the application by inspecting the residential address is approving the same.

The complaint states that the Revenue Officer is hand in glove with some such aspiring candidates. Purity and sanctity of such democratic process should not be defeated by means of allowing corrupt practices even before the election.

I have issued notice to the revenue Officer and Assistant Revenue Officer concerned to submit a reply by May 15. The copy of the notice has also been addressed to State Election Commission for reference and action, if needed,'' Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi said.
