Founder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Dr S Ramadoss has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, requesting him to move the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the acquittal of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha in disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.

The letter, written in the wake of findings by Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) B V Acharya, regarding ‘wrong calculations’ of income of Jayalalitha and three other accused by the special bench judge Justice C R Kumaraswamy, says that this being a serious matter, the Karnataka government should obtain a stay of the order before any damage is done.

“Jayalalitha is all set to assume the office of chief minister of TN. If this happens, it will cause uncalculated harm to the people of Tamil Nadu,” the letter says.

The letter says that the entire episode, if left unchecked, will make a mockery of justice.
Dr Ramadoss, in his letter, says that the disproportionate assets of the accused works out to 76.75 per cent, not 8.12 per cent as mentioned in the judgment.

Ramadoss has appreciated the effort of Acharya, who pointed out the error.Speaking to reporters after meeting Siddaramaiah, the duo said that they have requested him to take the matter to the apex court in the interest of the people of Tamil Nadu. They said that in case the Karnataka government fails to act, the PMK will challenge the order in the Supreme Court.

Justice Kumaraswamy calls on CJ

Sources in the High Court said that Justice C R Kumaraswamy is said to have discussed the reports of error in judgement with Chief Justice D H Waghela. On Wednesday, Justice Kumaraswamy was busy relooking into the order. Some of the advocates at the High Court were anticipating that a rectified judgement would be pronounced towards evening.
