A ‘no-confidence motion’ was successfully passed against Mandya City Municipal Council President B Siddaraju and Vice-President Chandrakala Shivaramu at a meeting, here, on Thursday.

Both the president and vice-president of the CMC were ousted. While the number of votes against them were 32, with Congress, JD(S) and Independent members joining hands, none voted in favour of the duo.

Siddaraju and Chandrakala, who had anticipated their defeat during the no-confidence motion that was scheduled to be tabled in the meeting on Thursday, had tendered their resignation to Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nagabushan, well before the meeting.

District in-charge Minister Ambarish, MP C S Puttaraju too attended the meeting and voted against them. Among 37 members, who had the right to vote, the president, vice-president and a member Puttathayamma were absent. Councillors Chandrakumar and Shivaprakash Babu attended the meeting, but, did not vote and staged a walk-out.

However, the no-confidence motion, which ousted the president and the vice-president, is a victory for the Ambarish faction. When Siddaraju and Chandrakala failed to step down as per the internal agreement between the Congress leaders, Minister Ambarish had intervened and directed them to resign. But, they did not listen to him and continued to stay     in power, which irked the minister.

Angered over their attitude, the supporters of Ambarish were successful in their mission, with the help of the JD(S) and Independent councillors.

Ambarish said, the development proves that there is always victory for friendship and the leaders of various parties extending support is a proof of this.
