Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute will launch “Indiana Emergency Medical Services” to provide qualified emergency physicians available round the clock in the hospital from May 16.

Indiana Hospital Managing Director Dr Yusuf Kumble said the service will have fully equipped mobile ICU for transporting sick patients.

The objective is also to train doctors in emergency medical service. After specialisation, doctors will be able to serve in other places as well, he said.

Emergency Medicine Department Head Dr Bevin D’Silva said in many hospitals emergency cases are being handled by junior most persons.

But, it needs a specialist who can take decisions to save a life. There is need to bring all emergency medicines to one textbook and improve quality.

CEO Keshav Das said the Services is coming up with awareness programme ‘Save a life’, in which doctors would provide Basic Life Support (BLS) training to traffic police, rickshaw drivers & public.
