CMRIT students ace VTU exam

Two students from CMR Institute of Technology (PG Studies) got the second rank in the VTU final exams for the year 2008-09. Md. Dizaur Rohman scored an aggregate of 86.47 per cent in MCA and Malavika V scored an aggregate of 77.04 per cent in MBA, says a press release from the institute.

IBS student wins essay contest

The sixth annual two-day international conference on ‘Economics and Finance’ was organised by IBS, Bangalore recently. The theme of the conference was ‘Achieving Stability in Growth’. The conference was inaugurated by KR Ramamoorthy, Chairman (Non-Exec), ING Vysya Bank. In his address, he stressed the need for regulating financial innovation and coordinating regulators. Chief guest Prof Appa Rao Korukonda, Dean, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, USA delivered the keynote address on ‘Innovation, India and the World’. A total of 44 papers were presented. The winners of the ‘Student Paper Writing Competition’ on the topic ‘Global Economic Recovery: Is it Real?’ were announced. Sandeep Babulal Jain from IBS, Bangalore won the first prize, a cash award of Rs 10,000, and Pranav Kale of IIT, Mumbai won the second prize.

Campus placements

Even though the placement season at UVCE was delayed by a few months, nearly 70 per cent of eligible final year students were placed. Cognizant Technology Solutions, Subex Technologies, Infosys, IBM, iGate, ACC and Vedanta were some of the top firms that were part of the placement drive. Cognizant recruited 129 students, Infosys 68 and IBM Global Services recruited 30 students, says a press release from the college.
