Football camp to begin in Bengaluru from June 4

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday confirmed that the national team will undergo a preparatory camp here from June 4 for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The list of probables who will be part of the camp is expected to be released later this week.

The camp, to be held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, will give the head coach Stephen Constantine barely eight days to shape up his team ahead of the crucial first qualifier against Oman on June 11.

The Sree Kanteerava stadium will also play host to the national side’s second home tie in the qualifiers — against Iran — scheduled for September 8.

With the AIFF deciding to drop all the Indian Super League venues from the list of probable venues for the World Cup qualifiers, the newly constructed Greenfield stadium in Thiruvananthapuram has emerged as the front runner to host the third tie against Guam on November a12.

However, the game might also be awarded to Bengaluru if Kerala Blasters, the Kerala-based ISL team, adopt the Thiruvananthapuram venue as their home ground for the second season of the league, AIFF sources said.

The Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi will not host a match due to metro work in progress in the vicinity, the sources added.

Fixtures: June 11: India vs Oman (Bengaluru); June 16: Guam vs India (Harmon); September 8: India vs Iran (Bengaluru); October 8: Turkmenistan vs India; October 13: Oman vs India; November 12: India vs Guam; March 24, 2016: Iran vs India; March 29, 2016: India vs Turkmenistan.
