Culprit's 3 friends waylay, threaten road rage witness

Last Updated 21 May 2015, 01:56 IST

A teenage eyewitness has claimed he was  waylaid and threatened on Tuesday by three men who wanted him to withdraw a road rage in which his friend was killed.

Naushad, 19, was witness to an attack in which Badal was killed in  August last year by six men carrying daggers and swords.

A case of murder and attempt to murder under Indian Penal Code was filed over Naushad’s statement with Ghazipur police station.

Police had arrested five of the six accused and the case is being heard at Karkardooma Court in east Delhi.

Naushad’s statement was to be recorded in the court on April 23. But it was rescheduled. Naushad told Deccan Herald that he was waylaid on Tuesday near the petrol pump where Badal was attacked.
Recognised him

“Three men travelling in a Maruti Alto threatened me with dire consequences if I don’t withdraw the case before the next court hearing. I know one of them. He was Gulfam, a friend of the accused,” Naushad said.

Despite the threats, the teenager said he has been fighting for justice for nine months and would not give up even if he gets killed.

“I was beaten up, but was spared as it was a crowded street in Ghazipur. There is no question at the moment of withdrawing the case,” Naushad added.

Last year’s assault

Badal was a bouncer with a bar in Noida. On August 23, 2014, he was going to Ghaziabad on a motorcycle with colleague Ramesh. They had stopped at a petrol pump on the way.

When they were waiting for their turn to get fuel filled, one of the assailants got out of his car and asked Badal to move his motorcycle.

When Badal refused to move, the man had swung a dagger at Badal, while another man came from behind and stabbed Badal on his shoulder.

Ramesh had tried to save Badal, but he too sustained stab injuries. Badal was declared brought dead at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.
