CID likely to serve notices on ADGP, IGP for 'links' with lottery racket kingpin

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is probing into the illegal lottery racket, is likely to serve a notice on a senior IPS officer, asking him to appear before it for an inquiry for his suspected links with the kingpin of the racket.

A source in the CID said that they were preparing a notice to be served on an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

The officer in question is said to aspire to become the Bengaluru police commissioner, a post that will fall vacant soon when the incumbent, M N Reddi, will be promoted to the DGP’s rank.

The ADGP is suspected to have close links with lottery scam kingpin, Pari Rajan.
The CID is also contemplating serving a similar notice an Inspector General of Police (IGP) serving in Bengaluru City. It is verifying the bank accounts of the two officers and it’s just a matter of time before notices are served, the source added.

Besides the two officers, there are a few others who appear to have a close relationship with Rajan.

The CID investigation has so far found that a former Bengaluru City police commissioner and a retired DG&IGP were also in constant touch with Rajan.

“We are trying to ascertain the nature of their relationship with him,” the source said.
Call records to be checked.

An extensive analysis of Rajan’s Call Detail Record (CDR) showed that some IPS officers either made calls to him or received calls from him.

“The ADGP and the IGP are sure to face the heat if the CID decides to summon them. A section of officers, who are not on good terms with the ADGP and the IGP, are pushing hard for their questioning. Interestingly, another group of IPS officers has stood by them and is working hard to protect them,” said the source.

The IGP had strained his relationship with the government for his negative comments on the recent modification in the City police structure. The government took his resentment seriously and expressed its displeasure over such comments. The officer’s suspected links with Rajan can only further accelerate his transfer from the post, said a source in the Home Department.

The IGP made frequent calls to Rajan from his landline and personal mobile phones. He also called a CID police inspector not to arrest Rajan. The inspector recorded the said conversation between him and the IGP, said the source.

The CID has already submitted a detailed report to the government on Rajan’s links with Dharanesh, the Superintendent of Police (Lottery Squad) who has been suspended now. The government ordered the CID to investigate further and submit a report on Rajan’s links with police officers.
