4-month-old boy swept away in storm

A four-month -old boy, Arif, died after he was swept away by strong winds at Karatagi village in the taluk on Friday.

At least 150 houses at several villages in Marali, Navali and Karatagi hoblis were damaged partially and many trees and electricity poles uprooted in the storm. Deputy Commissioner R R Jannu visited the villages to take stock of the damage inflicted by the storm.

Power supply to the villages in the afore-mentioned hoblis has been affected badly. The drinking water situation in the said villages has worsened due to the power outage.


Many houses in the region have been damaged, making it difficult for people to prepare food. The public have set up ganji (gruel) centres to provide food to those affected.
85 villages suffer

District in-charge Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi has instructed the officials to take up relief work. About 85 villages in Navali hobli have suffered damage in the storm. Likewise, 56 houses in Hanawal and Hanawal Camp, 15 in Mylapur and five house in Karatagi have suffered partial damage.

Gangavathi tahsildar Venkanagouda Patil visited the villages. The Revenue Department will conduct a survey to study the extent of damage in the affected villages and a report will be submitted to the government soon, the deputy commissioner said. The district administration will set up gruel centres and supply drinking water to the affected villages through tankers, the deputy commissioner added.
