Expedite land acquisition for RGUHS in Ramanagar: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed officials to ensure that the legal hurdles and the disagreement with farmers over land acquisition for the campus of the RGUHS in Ramanagar are cleared at the earliest.

Siddaramaiah, who chaired a review meeting of Ramanagar district in Bengaluru on Thursday, asked the officials to get the stay in the Supreme Court vacated so that the land acquisition process in Archakarahalli, Ramanagar district can be expedited. He asked them to work out a compromise formula with the farmers who have been demanding higher compensation.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Ramanagar district incharge Minister D K Shivakumar said that the officials had been directed to expedite the land acquisition process so that the long-pending proposal to shift the varsity campus from Bengaluru to Ramanagar can be effected. The officials of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) were present at the meeting.

Shivakumar said that the government would not change its stand and that the university would be shifted to Ramanagar. As per the final notification, KIADB was asked to acquire 216 acres of land from farmers in Archakarahalli. The minister said that so far KIADB had acquired 145 acres and handed them over to the Health department. However, 17 farmers had moved the Supreme Court, seeking its intervention with regard to 92 acres.
