Dhumal rubbishes phone-tap charges

Last Updated 20 January 2010, 17:24 IST

Dhumal dismissed contents in a CD purportedly containing the voice of Dhumal as “fabricated” while Singh said the audio and videotape alleged showing a BJP MP accepting bribe have “highly compromised” the Chief Minister’s position.

On his part, Dhumal ordered a CID probe into the issue. “I have asked the state CID to carry out a probe into the CDs to bring out the truth before the people,” Dhumal said, while denying the charge and dubbing the CDs as “fake and fabricated”.

The probe will be carried out by Additional DGP, CID, I D Bhandari who has been asked  to submit his report at the earliest. A packet containing two audio CDs and one video CD was sent to some newspaper offices on Tuesday.

In one audio CD, Dhumal, who belongs to the BJP, is purportedly giving a “go ahead” to DGP (State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau) D S Manhas to tap phones of Singh and his wife Pratibha. Manhas said he would not like to comment on “rumours of a CD doing the rounds”.

Singh had in the past alleged that his telephones were being tapped by the state authorities.
