With four of the recently announced chartered flights by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) to Hampi already booked to maximum capacity, three more are in the offing to manage the rush.

Seven chartered flights operated by Jet Airways from different parts of South India were announced by KSTDC between January 22 and February 3. The tickets were made quite affordable thanks to the huge subsidy provided by the State government.

Four flights are to leave to Hampi from Bangalore, two from Hyderabad and one from Chennai. “This is the first time we are operating chartered flights along the route. Within three hours of opening bookings on January 16, 200 out of the 220 seats available in all the flights departing from Bangalore were booked,” informed Managing Director of KSTDC Vinay Luthra. The rest were also booked within the same day. “We have now decided to introduce three more chartered flights from the City, “ Luthra said.

The response to the flight from Hyderabad was also appreciable with one flight fully booked and half of the tickets in the other flight booked by January 19. The response from Chennai is yet to pick up, the MD said.

The first flight from Bangalore will leave BIAL airport on the morning of January 22 while the last flight will be on February 3. The duration of the flight is one hour.

The cost per ticket works out to approximately Rs 7,000. This is inclusive of accommodation for two days, meals and sightseeing trips to Pattadakal, Aihole and Badami.

In case of bookings by a minimum of four members in a family, the cost would work out to less than Rs 6,000 per person.

On whether KSTDC would make it a permanent annual venture during the Hampi festival,  Luthra said there were no such plans as of now.

“A grand occasion like the 500th coronation anniversary has prompted us to opt for this kind of trip to Hampi, ” the MD added.
