Some local Congress leaders have complained to high command against an influential leader of the party for allegedly protecting city resident and alleged kingpin of the lottery scam Pari Rajan.

The scam has already created havoc in the State and the government suspended senior IPS officer Alok Kumar on Saturday after the CID sought to probe his role in the lottery scam.
It is said that generally political leaders and influential people try to stay away from jail on the pretext of ill health when they are arrested and placed under judicial custody and the local politically influential heavyweight is trying to keep him in the hospital.

It is also learnt that the same political leader was supplying food to Rajan and the District Armed Reserve (DAR) personnel, who are guarding him, every day much before Rajan name came into limelight in the lottery scam.

Meanwhile, Rajan who is under judicial custody and admitted to Robertsonpet Government Hospital on May 16  following complaints of BP and diabetes, was discharged on Sunday.
Dr Devaraj Pungan of the hospital said, “Rajan, who was in police custody, collapsed as soon as he entered the hospital. His blood pressure level was fluctuating. He has been treated immediately. He may be shifted to other place after additional tests are done.”

The political leader’s henchmen have camped on the hospital premises, it is said.
The local Congress leaders, who have complained against their leader to the high command, have sought strict action against him. The scam has embarrassed the government already, they have told the party’s senior leaders.

Meanwhile, tight security had been provided to the ward in the hospital where Rajan has been admitted.
Three constables of the District Armed Reserve were keeping a vigil.

High drama at hospital
High drama was witnessed the at time of Rajan’s discharge from the hospital. The doctors wrote in their records that he was discharged and allowed the police to take him back to jail. But within a few minutes, they changed their stand and recommended them to take him to Jayadeva Hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment. The DAR police personnel, who had come to the hospital to take him back to the jail, refused to take him to Bengaluru.

Then, Circle Inspector Jagadish and other police officials, who rushed to the hospital, spoke to district surgeon Dr Shivakumar. They later took him to a special jail at Champion Reefs stating that they will take him to Bengaluru after taking permission from higher officials. It is said that he may be taken to Bengaluru on Monday.

Rajan’s background
Rajan, a resident of Bharath Nagar of BEML Nagar, had links with many IPS officers. He was dropping their names to local police get his work done or senior police officials in Bengaluru were calling the local police to do his work as he was known to them. The police, familiar with his behaviour, said he was introducing himself to police officials by giving Tirupati laddoos. Later, he was dropping the names of senior police officials who were familiar to him. The local police were treating him with respect as he knew senior officials.

Rajan was attending various programmes in the city with some previous IGPs of Central Zone. He was boasting of his connection with top police officers by putting up flex boards across the city.

Lottery and excise SP Dharanesh, who has been suspended in connection with the scam, was earlier a probationary sub-inspector in the city. Rajan is facing charges of running lottery transactions in many places, including Bengaluru. However, a police source said there are no records to show that he was running the racket in the district. The CID is investigating the scam.
