Rotary clubs launch project to treat BPL kidney patients

Five Rotary Clubs from India, the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Slovenia have joined hands with NU Hospitals in the City to provide treatment at a subsidised cost to Below Poverty Line (BPL) patients suffering from renal failure and HIV/Aids. 

The hospital started treating the patients on Sunday. It has set up an exclusive room for HIV dialysis and equipped it with requisite infrastructure, hygiene and other specific requirements to prevent cross infection. 

The project aims at reaching out to at least 15,000 lives in eight years. Former deputy chief minister R Ashok inaugurated the Rotary Jeevanbimanagar Nephrology Centre at NU Hospitals in Padmanabhanagar on Sunday. 

Project Chairman, Ronnie Vincent, said: “The speciality of this facility is that this is a holistic programme that provides consultation, counselling and dialysis to the poor.” 

Meanwhile, NU Hospitals, rotarians and volunteers organised a walkathon in Padmanabhanagar to spread awareness about renal health. Former Rotary International director Pandurang Setty, president Ronnie Vincent and NU Hospitals chairman Dr Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy were present at the function.
