Submit action taken report on Mylarappa: HC

Syndicate had called for an inquiry into alleged misappropriation

Hearing a petition by L Vasudevamurthy, former member, Academic Council, Bangalore University, the division bench headed by Justice Gopalagowda has sought to know the action taken against the former director under Section 49 (2) of the University Act, following the audit report disclosing that around Rs 68 lakh was misappropriated during his tenure as the director.

The petitioner had challenged the Higher Education Minister's order dated October 7, 2008, which annulled the resolution of the BU Syndicate. The Syndicate had called for a CID inquiry into Mylarappa's involvement in the alleged misappropriation of amount during his stint as director.

The petitioner said the audit report also disclosed that there was a discrepancy of about Rs 2.34 crore in the accounts of the Directorate.

He also submitted that a committee had found that the PhD thesis submitted by Dr M Venkataramappa, under the guidance of Mylarappa, was plagiarised.

The petitioner argued that the Government has no right to withdraw the FIR. The bench has directed the State to furnish the report within a week.
