Free tuition for below average students

New teaching methods to bolster SSLC performance

Preliminary tests and preparatory examinations were conducted in government, government aided and unaided schools of Jayanagar and Basavanagudi. Based on the scores obtained, students who had obtained the lowest marks have been selected to attend the free SSLC coaching classes. The focus will be on students’ reading comprehension, writing ability and retention capacity.

On teachers’ training, Dr K S Sameera Simha, Professor at Vijaya College and Joint Secretary of BHS Education Society, Silicon City Educational Academy said experienced teachers with the knowledge of Kannada and English were selected.

“Bilingual teachers were selected as the students’ understanding of topics will be in Kannada even though the medium of instruction is in English. This will facilitate in better learning and understanding of concepts and facts instead of rote learning,” explained Dr Sameera Simha, who is directing the initiative.  Sharing the training experience Umapathy, a teacher at Sahakari Vidya Mandir said that they were exposed to new modes of teaching.

“The main objective of the training programme is to identify the weakness of students and strengthen their areas of improvement through effective teaching. It has helped us to develop a new perspective towards below average students,” the teacher pointed out.

Initiative lauded

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Visveshwara Hegde Kageri, who was present at the programme lauded Samiti’s initiative. The minister stressed the importance of paying more attention to students who have scored below average marks to enhance their performance. “Teachers should encourage and nurture the interests of students,” the minister said.

Free coaching classes for SSLC students will be conducted in three centres: Rotary Club, Ragigudda Temple Hall and Sarakki School premises in Jayanagar. For more details call: 9341906517.
