Man killed, wife suspected

A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death at his home in east Delhi’s Usmanpur early on Monday. The victim’s wife has been detained by police as a suspect in the murder case.

The woman, however, has neither revealed much during questioning nor has she confessed to her crime. The woman’s brother-in-law, the other suspect, has been absconding since the murder.

A senior police officer told Deccan Herald that they have learnt that the victim and his wife fought frequently over an alleged extramarital affair between the woman and her brother-in-law.

But whether any extramarital affair actually existed and or it had anything to do with the murder has not been ascertained yet, said the officer.

The brother-in-law had abandoned his wife two years ago and had been living with the couple. This never went down well with the victim as he suspected his wife of indulging in an affair with him.

The murder came to light on Monday morning when locals heard the 30-year-old woman crying loudly at her home.

The neighbours knocked, but the woman did not open the door.

This prompted them to contact the victim’s brother who in turn informed police. The door was broken down. Inside, police found the victim lying dead with blood all around him and his wife was wailing beside.

The woman told police that her husband had fallen from the stairs at night and died. However, there were many external injuries on his body, apparently inflicted with a sharp object. The woman was subsequently picked up for questioning.

It emerged during questioning that her husband and brother-in-law were involved in a scuffle while drinking together in the house. She, however, has refused to throw any light on the murder. The weapon of offence too has not been recovered.
