Delhi sizzles at 45 C

The heat wave continued in Delhi on Tuesday, with extreme weather conditions prevailing here throughout the day.

The national capital recorded a maximum temperature at 45 degree Celsius, five degrees above normal. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue.

The Palam observatory, however, recorded 46.3 degree Celsius.  Tuesday’s temperature was 0.5 degree below Monday’s maximum temperature of 45.5 degree Celsius, the season’s highest so far.The minimum temperature on Tuesday was 30.4 degree Celsius.

“Delhi witnessed hot weather conditions even on Tuesday. There is likely to be no relief for the capital for at least the next two days,” said a Met official. The maximum temperature on the corresponding day last year was 39 degree Celsius. The average temperature recorded in May this year is more than that of last year.

“Heat waves continue to affect north India, with the maximum temperature shooting up in Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Delhi. Hot westerlies from Pakistan are sweeping these parts of north India, which is why the maximum temperatures are going up,” said the official.
According to Met department, the national capital will witness similar weather conditions on Wednesday.
