Last Updated 26 May 2015, 21:11 IST

The contractors of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike staged a demonstration in front of the Palike main building on Tuesday.

They locked the doors of the building and protested against the BBMP over the suicide of Ravi, vice-president of the contractors’ association.

Since the main gate was locked, BBMP Administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar could not enter the building. The contractors raised slogans against the BBMP administration, which they held responsible for the death of their vice president.

They demanded the Palike to release the dues, which is close to Rs 1.75 crore, along with suitable compensation to the bereaved family members of the deceased contractor.

Vijay Bhaskar assured the contractors that Rs 350 crore released by the State government would be utilised to clear the dues of the contractors. While the remaining amount would be cleared only after the scrutiny of public works. The contractors withdrew their protest following the assurance.
