A man who robbed rickshaw passengers after intoxicating them was arrested on Tueday, two years after one of his victims died of drug overdose.

Accused Ahmed Hussain had kept the unconscious victim at his home for six days before dumping his body near a Metro station.

Hussain, 23, had fled to his hometown in Bihar in 2013, soon after he was suspected for the murder.

A Crime Branch team raided his home in Katihar last Thursday, but learnt that he had left for Delhi.

He was finally nabbed at New Delhi railway station.Police said Hussain used to operate with his accomplice Kamrul, a rickshaw puller, whose passengers they would target.

They would administer sedatives to the victims on some pretext and rob them. They would then dump them.

Their victim who died of drug overdose had arrived in Delhi from UP’s Balram district on January 3, 2013.

Working as a security guard with a sugar mill in UP, Lalji Pandey was tasked with depositing water samples from the mill to authorities in Delhi.

Done with the work, Pandey took a rickshaw from Malkaganj to Old Delhi railway station to board a train. On the way, he spoke to his wife over phone. But he did not return home which forced his wife to approach local police there.Delhi Police’s Crime Branch was tasked with solving the case after Pandey’s body was found close to Jahangirpuri Metro station in north Delhi.Investigations revealed that Pandey’s mobile phone was being used by Hussain and Kamrul.By the time, police could track down Kamrul’s address months after the murder, he had already died.

After Hussain’s arrest, he revealed the entire incident. The two robbers had happened to give Pandey an overdose of sedatives with tea on their way to the railway station. But Pandey did not regain consciousness even after they had robbed him of his cash, mobile phone and other valuables.

They were forced to keep him at Hussain’s home for six days with the hope that he would come back to senses.

Finally, they carried his body on the rickshaw to a spot near Jahangirpuri Metro station and dumped him on January 11 night. Pandey was found dead the next day.
