Chain-snatchers in the City are now targeting grocery shops managed by women.
Two women running grocer’s were relieved of their gold chains by offenders who came in the guise of customers on Wednesday evening.

At MS Palya, Vidyaranyapura, Nagamma, 50, was in her grocery shop when an unidentified man turned up as customer around 9.20 pm and asked for a Colgate toothpaste. Just as Nagamma turned to the shelf to get the toothpaste, the man snatched her gold chain, weighing 42 grams, and disappeared in a flash, police said.

In a similar incident in JP Nagar 5th Phase, Lakshmi, 60, lost her 60-gram gold chain when a man, who had bought eggs, snatched it after asking her to give him some tomatoes. As Lakshmi got busy packing the tomatoes, the man pounced on her and grabbed the chain, and ran away.

A senior police officer said chain-snatchers were using a new modus operandi.
“They are targetting shops run by woman. The matter has been brought to the notice of the police top brass,” he said.
