Police personnel had to intervene and use mild lathi charge to disperse the Congress and BJP workers, who had indulged in a fisticuff at Kudluru, near Kushalnagar, Kodagu district, during the Gram Panchayat polls, on Friday.

The fight ensued between the workers over bringing an old woman to the polling booth to enable her to cast her vote.

The district witnessed brisk polling from the morning itself. As both the Assembly constituencies are represented by BJP, there is a tough fight between the parties to make their supporting candidate win the polls. When the BJP workers camping near the booth spotted a Congressman bring an old woman for voting, there were heated exchange of words, that turned into an ugly fight.

However, the police personnel on the spot tried to intervene and when the situation went out of control, they resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
