Over 80,000 log in for DU admission

Over 80,000 applicants had logged in till Friday evening on the Delhi University’s website after it went online with its pre-admission registration process.

The online admission process had kicked off on Thursday, just after midnight. “By 5 pm on Friday, the number of applicants who had registered was 81,055 out of which 30,829 had made payments (online),” Joint Dean of Students’ Welfare Malay Neerav said.

On the first day itself, over 37,000 applicants had logged in.

The varsity claimed that despite the massive online traffic the registration process was glitch-free. Last year, the online admission on its initial days saw minor hiccups, as the DU’s website crashed following enthusiastic response from applicants.

But this year, the university has put in place backup servers to handle the online traffic.
Out of the 30, 829 students who submitted their registration forms, 21,850 have ticked the General category while 5,711 have applied under Other Backward Castes category, Scheduled Castes (2,600), Scheduled Tribes (606), and Persons with Disabilities (65).
Over 2.5 lakh applicants were in fray for 54,000 seats available in 64 undergraduate colleges in the previous year.

The last date for online registration is June 15 while offline forms will be accepted at nine registration centres from June 5 to June 15. Students can fill up the centralised optical mark recognition (OMR) forms on the university’s website – www.du.ac.in.

Payments for the online forms will have be made through internet banking. The fee for General category students is Rs 100 whereas for SC/ST students the admission form will cost Rs 50.

The first cut-off list will be announced on June 25.
