Software engineer fatally knocks down woman, arrested

A software engineer, who rode his bike recklessly and knocked down a pedestrian, resulting in her death on Sunday night, has been arrested by the Sadashivanagar police.

The victim has been identified as Shahnaaz, 27, a labourer and resident of KR Puram. Shahnaaz, a native of Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, was married with two children. Her husband works for a security agency.

The suspect, Sumesh, 23, a resident of BTM Layout, 2nd Stage, graduated from MS Ramaiah College and was employed with a private firm, said the police.

Sumesh had gone to MS Ramaiah College to meet his friends on Sunday evening and headed home around 8.30 pm. He lost control of the bike after noticing Shahnaaz crossing the road in front of the CPRI gate in CV Raman Nagar near the Sadashivanagar traffic police station, and knocked her down. She was rushed to MS Ramaiah Hospital with severe injuries and later shifted to another private hospital, where she died at 2.10 am, the police said.

Domestic help killed

A woman domestic help died on the spot after a car knocked her down at Kundalahalli in Whitefield area on Monday morning.

The police identified the victim as Usha, 28, a resident of Kundalahalli. The accident took place around 7 am, while she was crossing the road. Usha was married with two children. The Whitefield traffic police have arrested Sudhakar, the car driver.

Cook dies in accident

A 55-year-old man was mowed down by a speeding autorickshaw in Basavanagudi traffic police limits on Sunday night.

The accident occurred at around 9 pm when Surendra Shetty, a resident of Hanumanthnagar, was crossing the Bull Temple road. A native of Kundapura, Shetty was employed as a cook at AVS Catering in Basavanagudi, the police said.

Shetty was returning home after work, when the speeding autorickshaw driver failed to notice him because of heavy rainfall and knocked him down. Shetty was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police are on the lookout for the autorickshaw driver.

Notorious thief arrested

The Parappana Agrahara police have arrested one person in connection with theft and recovered silver articles, a four-wheeler and three laptops worth Rs six lakh.

The suspect was identified as Nagaraj, 28, a resident of KC Palya, BG Road.

According to the police, Nagaraj was involved in thefts in Vijayanagar, Subramanyanagar and several other places in the City. The police acted on credible leads and arrested him near a garment factory on Sunday in Bannerghatta. Nagaraj has been remanded in judicial custody.
