After summer vacation, schools across the State reopened on June 1. Though the schools had to be reopened officially on May 29, a majority of the students did not attend schools in Mandya district, in view of the Gram Panchayat polls. As it was followed by the weekend, the schools began functioning for the current academic year only from June 1.

While some were happy to return to school after a long gap, attired in their new uniforms, students of kindergarten and primary schools were seen crying and being pacified by their parents on day one.

The Deputy Director of Public Instructions had directed all government schools to hold special programmes to welcome the students on May 29. But, due to Gram Panchayat polls, some teachers were deputed on poll duty and the reopening was postponed to May 30.

Since the strength was thin on May 30, the students who were present, were distributed sweets and were given a warm welcome. But, classes have been started in the schools in full swing from June 1, with the students attending classes with full enthusiasm.

Schoolteachers in villages are making all preparations to bring back the students who have dropped out of school.

Senior officials have instructed the cooks to make all arrangements for preparation of midday meals, to maintain cleanliness and hygiene on the surroundings, clean water tanks and toilets.
