'Bar doing business without trade license'

Annoyed by the nuisance created by the presence of bars in the locality, residents of Agrahara staged a protest, here on Monday. They demanded that the bar — Arya Bar and Restaurant, formerly Jamuna Bar — located in Khille Mohalla be closed.

The residents alleged that the septic tank and drains of the bar were overflowing and bar management has done little to maintain hygiene around the bar. Garbage from the bar is dumped near the bar for days on end and its customers urinate in public during the night, they alleged.

Local residents are afraid of walking near the bar at night due to the drunkards, they said.
They said, the Standing Committee on Health of the Mysuru City Corporation had inspected the bar and had cancelled its trade license three months ago. However, the bar is allowed to operate illegally, they complained.

Corporator B V Manjunath said, the UGD line of the bar had burst, and drain water was flowing on the road. People who have houses nearby have complained several times. So, the MCC should provide a solution to the problems faced by them, he said.

He said, the authorities were pursuing undue delay in closing the bar. The MCC has failed to act against the bar as the owner is an influential person. Hence, a complaint will be filed against the bar with the Excise department on Tuesday, he said.

Excise officials, who arrived on the spot, inspected the bar and listened to the grievances of the public.
