Bangalore University increases admission fees

Bangalore University has increased admission fees for undergraduate courses considerably. The admission fees for students who have passed the pre-university course in the State Board in Karnataka is Rs 1,400. This is more than a 50 per cent hike compared with Rs 900 last year. In fact, for all categories, there is a fifty per cent or more increase in fees.

The fee structure for CBSE, ICSE and non-Karnataka students is Rs 3,600 (last year it was Rs 2,900), for Indian students from outside India, it is Rs 7,600 (Rs 6,500 last year) and Rs 15,200 for foreign students (last year it was Rs 7,450).

The fee structure applies to all courses except for BCA. The fee structure for BCA this year is Rs 6,400 for PU students, Rs 8,600 for non-Karnataka and CBSE and ICSE students, Rs 12,600 for Indian students who have passed the qualifying exam from outside India, and Rs 18,100 for foreign students. The same last year was Rs 5,550, Rs 7,550, Rs 11,150 and Rs 10,150, respectively.

University Registrar (Administration) K K Seethamma told Deccan Herald that there was an overall 10 per cent hike in the fees and that this was an annual procedure.

Meanwhile, vice chancellor B Thimme Gowda maintained that the only substantial hike this time was the sports fee, which was increased from Rs 100 last year to Rs 500. The government wanted them to increase it to Rs 1,000, but the university fixed it at Rs 500, he said.
