Fill RTE quota seats: Upalokayukta

Last Updated 03 June 2015, 19:52 IST

Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi has directed the officials of Department of Public Instructions to ensure allotment of remaining seats under RTE to eligible students, even after the last round of lottery.

Several parents on Wednesday complained that after the first round of admission under RTE, there were admissions at a few schools before the second round of admission under RTE could start.

Director of Public Instructions, however, submitted that since two schools - Army Public School and Delhi Public School - had not admitted students under the RTE quota, alternative arrangements had to be made in other schools. He also stated that one more round of lottery round will take place for the schools where the seats under RTE are still lying vacant.

“As of now, 60 vacancies under RTE quota in 12 schools  still remained to be filled and the director has proposed to hold the lottery in the presence of the parents. Meanwhile, parents have requested to have a school of choice after the last round of lottery if there is vacancy in a better school. This is only in the event of availability of seats in such schools even after the last round of lottery. Instead of wasting seats under RTE, an opportunity can be given to parents to choose a different school among the 12 schools,” Justice Adi said.

Upalokayukta has directed the director of DPI to consider the request of parents after the lottery is open and depending upon the availability of seats. Justice Adi has also directed the department to take action against schools for refusing to admit the students under the RTE without any legal justification. The Commissioner of Public Instructions has been directed to submit acton taken report on June 12.
