GP polls: Candidates fate to be known today

Counting scheduled in taluk HQs

Preparations have been made for the counting of votes of the recently concluded Gram Panchayat elections, at Maharaja’s Junior College here on Friday. The ballots of 876 seats against the total 947 seats coming under 37 panchayats in Mysuru taluk will be counted at the college. The elections in Mysuru district was held in the first phase on May 29.

Addressing media on the eve of counting, Tahsildar Naveen Joseph said ‘Of the to total 947 seats, 65 members have been elected unanimous, with the polling held for remaining seats, with several thousands of candidates in the fray’.

In all 402 personnel have been deputed, with the arrangements made for the counting of ballots in three rounds. Votes of three panchayats- Hanchya, Chamundi Hill and Varkodu will be counted in two rounds, while that of remaining 34 panchayats will be conducted in three rounds. A total of 120 tables have been put up for the purpose at 28 rooms.

The ballot boxes will be removed from the strong room at 7.45 am, with the counting scheduled to start at 8 am. The process will begin with the postal ballots. The entire process is expected to conclude during the evening.

ACP (In-charge) of K R Sub-division, C Gopal said a total of 450 policemen have been deputed at the venue as a part of elaborative security measure.
4,744 seats

Mysuru district has a total of 266 GPs, comprising 4,744 seats. The counting of votes of remaining taluks- Nanjangud, Periyapatna, K R Nagar, T Narsipur, H D Kote and Hunsur will be held at the respective taluk headquarters.

Parking arrangements

The city police have made temporary parking arrangements at the following places. The candidate and his or her representative including the public shall park their vehicles (all types) at Scouts and Guide ground, Maharaja’s College ground, K R Boulevard road, road in front of Officers Club and Lion’s Club premises. The counting personnel, police, fire and emergency services and media persons shall park their vehicles at Maharani’s Science and Arts College parking lot and eastern and western sides of Maharaja’s Junior College.
