Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have directed top officials of resource generating departments to ensure their budgetary targets are met every quarter.

Siddaramaiah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, held a review meeting with officials of the Excise, Stamps and Registration and Transport departments.

Siddaramaiah had to do a lot of financial jugglery last fiscal with State’s own tax revenue falling short by Rs 1,315 crore. This included Rs 500 crore due to decrease in prices of petrol and diesel, Rs 650 crore from State Excise and Rs 350 crore from Stamps and Registration.

According to sources, Siddaramaiah said all the departments should meet the set target for the financial year 2015-16 as any shortfall will affect development programmes planned by the government.

The Excise department has been set a target of Rs 15,200 crore, Stamps and Registration Rs 8,200 crore and Transport Rs 4,800 crore. The Transport department officials have conveyed to the chief minister that collections for the months of April and May stood at Rs 700 crore, when compared to Rs 650 crore last year.
