The media in Bangladesh and India has already branded the two-day visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh, starting on Saturday, as a landmark visit.

While a dozen of bilateral treaties are expected to be signed, one deal which has eluded media limelight is the Internet bandwidth deal that will enable India to buy off unused Internet bandwidth from the neighbouring country.

Bangladesh government has already given a Cabinet approval after New Delhi aporoached Dhaka with the proposal.

An MoU was signed between the two nations in May 2014 and the deal will be formalities, sources in state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) confirmed to Deccan Herald.

This deal would make North-East India one of most important Internet gateway and solve the region’s communication bottleneck.
