JOIN US“Dhritee and Dhitulee — All about Pearl,” story book for kids with illustrations by five children who are part of Prajna Counselling Centre’s computer graphics centre, was launched here on Saturday.
The story book for children captures interesting interaction between a child and an insect leading to an enlightening discovery. The entire narration has been captured through creative graphic illustrations.
These graphics have been conceptualised and designed by the under privileged children of Prajna Counselling Centre, under the guidance of the author of the book Gita Pandit.
“It is a significant achievement considering the fact that this was executed by the children without having the benefit of formal education, basic computer skills and English language proficiency, all pre-requisites for a graphic designing assignment,” said Gita Pandit.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said the work of Prajna Counselling Centre for the children who have lost dreams of childhood for various reasons is commendable.
The centre has been helping the children in pursuing their dreams. The district administration will extend its support to the Prajna Counselling Centre. SP Dr Sharanappa S D said changes can be brought in society through social work. Children should work towards fulfilling their dream.
The graphic illustrations in the book is the highlight. Three rescued child labourers who are under the care of Prajna Counselling Centre and two children selected under Child Fund India have illustrated the graphics.
“After teaching them the basics of English language and graphics, the children have designed the illustrations for the book,” said Gita Pandit. Gita Pandit has been imparting free computer education to the children at Prajna Counselling Centre.
The book will be published in the Amazon web portal. The money collected from the book will be given as a honorarium for the children. Prajna Counselling Centre Director Prof Hilda Rayappan said Prajna is engaged in the challenging task of enabling these rescued children develop their talent into viable career options to make them economically and financially independent.
