Putting an end to all the speculations, the BCCI announced the appointment of Rahul Dravid as the coach of the India A and under-19 teams. The former India captain said he was looking forward to working with the future generation of Indian cricketers.

“I am looking forward to working with the next generation of exciting young Indian cricketers,” Dravid said soon after BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur disclosed the news in Kolkata. “India ‘A’ and under-19 levels are really important stages with its challenges and pressure, and having been through it myself, I hope I will be able to help the young players in their journeys. It is important to work with young players, figure out what they are doing and what they need,” said the 42-year-old who had declined to be a part of the Cricket Advisory Committee involving Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

The Karnataka stalwart, who has been promoting Indian talent as the mentor of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, said he will seek the opinion of the senior team’s staff and National selectors while moulding the youngsters.

“I see the India A and under-19 as a bunch of players with a lot of talent,” he began. “And it is also about moving up to the next level, filling up places in the Senior team and yes I will be talking to (team’s Director) Ravi (Shastri) and the senior staff and the National selectors, figuring out what they see as the challenges that the Indian team faces and see that if we can help groom the kind of cricketers they are looking for.”
