State ignoring illegal betting , says HDK

Last Updated 07 June 2015, 20:13 IST

The State government is turning a blind eye on rampant illegal betting activities in the State, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy charged here on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a photo exhibition at Chitrakala Parishat, he said illegal betting activities have increased across the State in the last two years. This includes cricket betting. Many police officers are also involved in betting. But the government is doing nothing to prevent it, he added.

A recent letter by IPS officer Sonia Narang to the Karnataka Lokayukta on corruption in the Lokayukta police shows that the State police is rotting in corruption. The State government should wake up and take immediate steps to cleanse the system, he said.

On the decision to hold the winter session of State legislature both in Belagavi and Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy said the government is trying to please people of both north Karnataka and south Karnataka by splitting the session. The legislature session will not serve any purpose unless constructive debates are held to find solutions to problems being faced by people, he added.
