Stiff competition for CMC prez post

Last Updated 08 June 2015, 17:57 IST

With the completion of the Gram Panchayat polls, the people of Mandya are now debating on who will adorn the post of president and vice-president of the City Municipal Council.

Following dramatic developments, in which the councillors had to struggle for more than four months to oust CMC president B Siddaraju and vice-president Chandrakala, the people are eager to see a new president, who will concentrate on the development of the city.

It may be recalled that Minister Ambarish’s faction had tried hard to oust them and succeeded with the help of JD(S) and independent councillors. Now, the selection of the new CMC president and vice-president is a big challenge and June 12 is the last date to finalise the candidate.

According to JD(S) members, Ambarish’s supporters had assured them the posts of vice-president and standing committee member and also two nominations from the CMC to MUDA.

The independents, who were supporting the faction from the beginning, also have demand at least one post.

Meanwhile, there is stiff competition among the members of the Congress party itself for the post of president, especially between Hosahalli Boregowda and Lokesh.
As there is no clarity on seat sharing, there is no clear picture on the competitors. The competition is also seen in the JD(S) camp, which is confident of bagging two posts.

However, the selection process will be complete only after a meeting between the Congress and JD(S) leaders. Since, there is an understanding between the Congress and JD(S), the selection will not be much of a problem, is the general opinion.
Besides, there is much curiosity about the stand of the Siddaraju faction.

June 12
According to sources, the selection process for the post of president and vice-president will be held on June 12. The nominations will have to be filed by 11 am, after which it would be scrutinised. One hour time will be given for withdrawal of nominations. If necessary, the president and vice-president will be selected through voting.
