Last Updated 08 June 2015, 19:08 IST

The traffic police on Monday conducted a surprise drive to check whether the schools follow safety guidelines in their buses for ferrying children and registered as many as 1,255 cases for violations.

During the drive, it was found that most of the vehicles had more than the prescribed number of students. The police, while stating that surprise drives would continue in the future, has asked the school managements and the parents to satisfy themselves as to the condition of the school buses before letting children travel by them.
The schools re-opened on June 1 after summer vacation.
