'Nepal will not allow its territory for anti-India activities'

During a meeting between General Kapoor and Madhav Kumar Nepal on Thursday, they underlined their commitment to work together to control criminal activities from each other's territories along the porous borders, said Bishnu Nepal, the Prime Minister's press adviser.
They also discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Prime Minister assured the top Indian commander that Nepal will not allow its territory to be used for anti-India activities, according to the PMO.

They discussed issues related to controlling criminal activities in the border area and establishing joint check post to step up security.

Gen. Kapoor also met Defence Minister Vidya Bhandari and expressed willingness to provide assistance to strengthen Nepal's security system.

He underlined India's commitment to strengthen and modernise Nepal's military as per its demand, according to Bhandari's press adviser Subhash Devkota.They also discussed the setting up of a joint training centre at Saljhandi in Rupandehi district in western Nepal for providing training to the military, Devkota said. India has pledged to provide assistance to set up a Defence Staff College in Nepal.

Bhandari underlined the importance of the resumption of defence assistance to Nepal, which was suspended during Gyanendra's direct rule in 2005.
India recently provided 100 vehicles, including trucks, gypsies and ambulances for use by the military.

Kapoor, who will leave for New Delhi today after a four-day visit, was decorated with the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army in the presence of top dignitaries here on Thursday, underlining the "special relationship" between the two forces.
