In a tragic incident, a farmer working at an agricultural field as a KSRTC bus ploughed into the field and hit him, subsequently killing him on the spot, on Wednesday.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Vedamurthy (45).

According to eye-witness accounts, the speeding bus was bound towards Halebeedu from Hassan. It veered off the road as the driver lost control of the steering. The bus hit a roadside tree and two motorbikes before ramming into Vedamurthy. The bikes belong to the deceased and another farmer Mallikarjuna. However, the passengers in the bus had a miraculous escape.

It is said that Vedamurthy, as every day, had gone to his field on Wednesday morning and was involved in the agricultural activities, unaware of the death lurking at him. He had parked his motorbike near the land along with a bike belonging to his neighbour Mallikarjuna.

A huge crowd gathered on the spot after the information of the mishap spread, who staged a protest near the spot. Personnel from Belur and Halebeedu police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
