Dr S S Angadi confesses to lifting content from research work

Dr S S Angadi, Professor of the Department of Manuscripts, Hampi Kannada University, has been accused of committing a gross act of plagiarism. The professor is said to have ‘copied’a few pages from the MPhil work of a student for his work Dasa Sahitya Bhashe.

P Praveen, Kannada lecturer at Moodbidre’s Alva’s College, had submitted his work for MPhil on the topic, “Purandaradasara Prathima Jagattu,” in 2009, under the guidance of Prof A V Nawad.

In 2010, Dr Angadi published a book on “Dasa Sahitya Bhashe” lifting the content from pages 124 to 130 and 167 to 208 as it is from Praveen’s Purandaradasa Adhyayana Peetha without the due permission from the author or acknowledging the latter.

When Praveen complained to Hampi Kannada University Vice-Chancellor Prof H C Boralingaiah, Dr Angadi immediately resorted to damage control exercise by dashing an apology letter to the vice-chancellor.

In the letter, he has confessed to have copied a few pages from Praveen’s MPhil work and that he had failed to acknowledge the author’s name. He has assured to get Praveen’s name included in the republished version of the book.

Presently, Vice-Chancellor Prof Boralingaiah is on a foreign tour. He is likely to decide on the matter, upon his arrival.
