ACB conducts raids in Maha Sadan scam

Last Updated 14 June 2015, 19:43 IST

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday conducted raids in nine locations in Maharashtra, including houses of state information commissioner Deepak Deshpande, in connection with the Maharashtra Sadan scam.

The cash, gold and other properties raided are said to be worth several hundred crores, besides which the ACB has also sealed some bank lockers.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal was arrested in the scam and the raids are focused on those closely connected with him.

Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi was built during Bhujbal’s tenure as the state Public Works Department minister and several dubious deals connected with its construction has come to light. Bhujbal’s son Pankaj and nephew Sameer too are under the ACB’s scanner.

The Bureau has registered an FIR in the case.

Deshpande was a former PWD secretary in the state and was said to be close to Bhujbal. The role of Devdutt Marathe, another PWD secretary, has also come under close scrutiny and his houses in Navi Mumbai have been raided.

“We have raided a few places today,” said Kishore Jadhav, additional commissioner of police attached to the ACB headquarters in Mumbai.
