Senior citizen, daughter-in-law found stabbed to death at home

A 92-year-old man and his daughter-in-law were found stabbed to death at their house in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar on Sunday. Police suspect it to be an attack over personal enmity.

The victims have been identified as Sewa Ram Katariya and 64-year-old Shashi, residents of East Patel Nagar.

According to police, the bodies were discovered at 6 pm.
They were last seen alive by businessman Sudhir, Sewa Ram’s son and Shashi’s husband.

“Sudhir had been away for most of the afternoon. He left the house at 2 pm and found his father and wife murdered on returning home,” said a police officer.
According to police, the main door of the house was locked when Sudhir returned home.

Sudhir panicked as Sewa Ram rarely left home due to health issues, while his wife used to inform him whenever she left the house. Sudhir went to his sister’s house in the neighbourhood as she keeps duplicate keys of the house.

“The siblings rushed home sensing something amiss before opening the door and finding the bodies,” the officer added.

Police informed
Police were informed and a team from Patel Nagar police station rushed to the spot. After initial investigation, police have ruled out robbery as a motive.

“Not only was the entry friendly – no evidence of forced access to the house could be ascertained – there were no visible signs of ransacking. The perpetrators even left the jewellery on Shashi’s body untouched,” the officer said.

The brutal manner in which Sewa Ram and Shashi were killed has stunned police. “A stranger could have just stabbed them to death. In this case, both of them had several stab wounds which hints that the killer knew them,” the officer added.

A case of murder has been filed with Patel Nagar police station. Police suspect it to be an attack over personal enmity and they are questioning Sudhir’s family members and friends.

Police have obtained footage of CCTV cameras installed in the neighbour’s house.
Some domestic helps of the locality have also been detained for questioning.
