Narrow escape for passengers as Karwar-Bengaluru train derails
Thousands of passengers on the Kannur/Karwar-Bengaluru Express had a harrowing experience as the train was halted between Shirivagilu and Yadakumari stations since a boulder had fallen on the track.

At 2.10 am on Monday, engine driver Shivakumar noticed the boulder from a distance and applied emergency brakes in the nick of time. This resulted in the engine hitting the boulder at a slower speed. Two engines of the train and one unreserved coach were derailed.
Those on their way to Bengaluru were taken to Subramanya Road Station down the ghat in the train with the help of the back engine. They were then sent by a diverted train via Palakkad.

Those on the Bengaluru-Karwar/Kannur train were sent by bus to their destinations from Sakleshpur.  The service of the Bengaluru–Kannur/Karwar Express, which left Bengaluru on Sunday, was partially cancelled between Sakleshpur and Kannur/Karwar. Buses have been arranged by South Western Railway, Hubballi, for moving passengers by road to Mangaluru/Karwar.

The service of the Yeshwantpur–Karwar Express scheduled to leave on Monday has been cancelled. The Kannur–Bengaluru Express, scheduled to leave Kannur on June 15, has been partially cancelled between Kannur and Mangaluru Central. The Karwar-Bengaluru Express, scheduled to leave Karwar, has been partially cancelled between Karwar and Mangaluru Central.
