Last Updated 15 June 2015, 19:23 IST

The railways will soon install CCTV cameras on trains to provide higher security to women passengers. The ministry has conducted successful trials and will soon run a train fitted with such cameras in all of its coaches.

Member (Mechanical) of the Railway Board, Hemant Kumar said, “The railways has decided to provide CCTV cameras on coaches, especially ladies’ coaches.” The trials conducted in two ladies’ coaches – one in Southern Railways and another in Northern Railways – have given positive feedback. He said images are clear enough to suggest that it would be helpful to have such cameras on coaches.

He said gradually, the cameras would be installed on more trains. The project will be implemented in coordination with the RPF.

Kumar said that in order to facilitate comfortable travel for visually impaired passengers, the railways has taken an initiative of providing Braille signages on coaches.
