Woman hangs herself at home, leaves suicide note

Last Updated 16 June 2015, 02:08 IST

A woman allegedly hung herself from a ceiling fan at her in-laws’ house in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Sunday.

She apparently left behind a suicide note in which she mentioned domestic violence as a reason behind the extreme step, police said.

Gulshan, 26, had married around four years ago and was staying with her husband’s family. Her husband Ansar is employed with a private company in Noida and they have two sons.

Police said Gulshan’s brother-in-law had made a call to the police control room at 9 pm.

“The brother-in-law informed that the woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room. There was no one else at home when the incident took place,” said a police officer.

Gulshan was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Since she died within seven years of her marriage, an SDM enquiry has also been initiated.

“The statements of her family members and that of her in-laws were recorded and an investigation is underway. So far, there does not seem to be any foul play and the case appears to be of a suicide,” the officer added.

Police said her parents in their statement have said there was no dowry demand as such, but she was continuously mentally harassed by her mother-in-law. A suicide note apparently written by Gulshan was recovered from her room, police added.

Gulshan’s body was handed over to her family after a post-mortem on Monday. Sources said there was no injury mark on the body.
